13 ways to make your Android phone’s battery last longer

By Gary Cutlack

Improve your Android phone’s battery life with these tips

Let’s be honest – many mobile phone batteries simply aren’t fit for purpose. Even Google’s Larry Page says you should be grateful if your Android battery lasts a day.

In fact, in order to keep your smartphone alive for a full “working” day you’re often forced to deactivate the very features that make the phone “smart” to begin with, as you switch off option after option to nurse your rapidly-dying new mobile through a day of worthwhile use.

So what can be done, practically speaking, to make your Android phone’s battery last longer? And can any of the power-management apps actually help?

Here we’ll look at the more obvious Android battery-saving solutions, as well as the more obscure tips and tricks that could make a genuine difference – and add hours to your potential operational ‘up time’.

1. Widgetise your on/off switches

Put simply, you’ve got to take control. The best way of Read the rest of this entry »

Android’s Gingerbread may hurt HTC, Motorola

Google could put an end to custom Android interfaces with its next major release, sources said Wednesday. Android 3.0, also known as Gingerbread, will focus heavily on the user experience and is specifically aimed at reducing the need for layers like HTC’s Sense UI or Motorola’s Motoblur. As most core features were added with Android 2.2, the attention now is on having an interface with polish closer to that of the iPhone.

The insiders briefing TechCrunch on the subject didn’t say what UI features would come with the upgrade, though Read the rest of this entry »

This is a great article for all android phone users and people who are thinking of getting one:

The recent debut of the EVO 4G, Droid Incredible and other Android smartphones is probably making more people than ever interested in learning what an Android phone can do.

The trouble is, figuring that out which apps will work on these Android phones is much harder than you think.

The main place to get Android apps — those “applications” that make smartphones fun — is the Android Market. Android phones can connect directly to this online store. But if you don’t already have an Android phone in hand, you may notice something strange: Read the rest of this entry »

Rumorsville is abuzz with the leak of two yet to be announced handsets from Sony Ericsson. The manufacturer, who seems to be on a roll these days with a slew of new launched and leaks, is still not done yet, it seems.

The two new phones in question are the rather weirdly named Yendo and the somewhat more sublime Cedar. Let’s take a brief look at both the phones now. We start with the Yendo first.

The Yendo is most likely to be the first ever Walkman branded Android phone from Sony Ericsson. Earlier Read the rest of this entry »

Picture of the Galaxy S Pro – Is this the Phone for you?

Could this be the phone you have been waiting for?

Usually we would call something like this a rumor but we now have cold hard evidence of its existence. I checked my mailbox and to my delight I was treated with the first real pictures of the Galaxy S Pro. As you can see from the picture, it’s the Galaxy S with a full QWERTY keyboard. There’s also a front facing camera and a few other surprises. Read the rest of this entry »

EVO 4G fully hacked, build issues, floating in space?

The EVO 4G had a busy weekend. Perhaps the most interesting news is that the phone has now been completely rooted, for real. As you are likely aware, the device has posed some challenges for those seeking full access. From recovery only access to some directories to one-click rooting that left /system unwritable, hackers have been struggling to crack Sprint’s flagship nut.

It appears that the flood gates have now opened, and considering the popularity of EVO, I expect a boatload of ROMs will be cooked in rapid succession. Read the rest of this entry »

INQ to Launch Android Phones Soon- woohoo more for us!

Posted By admin On Monday, June 14th 2010   In Android News  Tags: Android, facebook, fourth quarter, good chance, INQ Mobile, nine months, Phone, Phones, social networking, social networks, twitter

Last year, manufacturer of popular social networking phones INQ Mobile had announced that it would soon be coming up with an Android based handset. This was back in September. Almost nine months down the line, looks like it is finally ready to shed some details regarding this upcoming phone.

According to GigaOM, INQ’s first Android device would be available starting the fourth quarter of 2010. It will feature a touchscreen display coupled with multi-touch capabilities. When launched, this would be the first real smartphone from INQ who, until now, has been selling BREW based phones themed for compatibility with popular social networks such has Facebook and Twitter.

INQ has also entered the Indian market recently and has a tie-up with Aircel owing to which there is a good chance that this upcoming Android laden phone will be launched in India as well.

As of now, little is known regarding this upcoming Android based phone apart from the fact that it is “on its way”. Looks like we’d need to wait for some leaked images of this one or for an official unveiling by the company in the next few weeks!
